Each month, we’ll bring you a feature about a Tucson businessperson, who just happens to play golf. For our first installment, we profiled Chris Edwards, the owner of Tucson Appliance.

You know him as well for his voice, than you do for his face…because when he’s promoting his business he usually wears a crazy costume or does a humorous parody. Chris Edwards took over Tucson Appliance when his dad died…and since then, he’s been able continue to grow the business

I got to learn a lot about how Chris Edwards got to be a household name in Tucson, while playing golf with him at his home course, Tucson Country Club. He picked up the game relatively late, at 33, but he got better in a hurry and today he’s a single digit handicap. He attributes his affinity for the game to his past sports love…tennis…”The eye/hand coordination is very similar in both sports. I moved over to golf from tennis though, because I was able to do business on the course.”

If you ask anyone who knows Chris where he spends most of his mornings, it’s at the course working on his short game. Not a long hitter off the tee, Chris more than makes up for it with his chipping and putting. Chris says that one of his favorite things to do is play in Pro/Ams when the Champions Tour comes to town. He says, that as well as being fun, he always picks up something from the pro’s that he can use later on the course.

Chris studied advertising in college and is a big believer in radio and television advertising. And his favorite ad involved golf. He played off the Bill Murray character in Caddyshack and he says today, many years later, people still stop him on the streets and comment on it. And of course, we all know his famous tagline…”Only at Tucson Appliance, where our low prices are your priority.”
