Skyline Country Clubs Head Pro Chris Dompier Advances To Taylormade National championship

Leading the Player of the Year standings, Chris Dompier is the golfer to watch in 2011

Currently leading the Player of the Year standings, Skyline Country Club’s Head Golf Pro and Class A-1 PGA Golf Professional Chris Dompier continues to show impressive skill on the greens this year, adding to

a growing list of 2011 career highlights. Dompier, the 2010 Tucson Player of the Year, will be one of only 80 golfers participating in the prestigious TaylorMade National Championship in March 2012.

Earlier this month, Dompier was invited to participate as a TaylorMade staff player at the first TaylorMade TP Classic at the prestigious Los Angeles Country Club. He placed among the top five qualifiers who will advance to the TaylorMade National Championship. The championship event will take place at the challenging Spyglass Hill Golf Course at Pebble Beach Resort in California on March 6-9, 2012. The winner will walk away from Spyglass Hill with a $20,000 purse.

The TaylorMade TP Classic marked the first time the exclusive Los Angeles Country Club opened its doors for an outside event, and Dompier described the course as “interesting” but “very difficult and very long,” with no golf carts permitted, only caddies. Despite the difficulty of the course, Dompier placed second out of 105 participants, earning one of five Southwest region qualifying spots. Next year, he will join a total of 40 players from eight regions to play in the TaylorMade National Championship at Spyglass Hill.

Ranked number 11 on Golf Digest’s list of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses,” Spyglass Hill has a reputation as one of the toughest courses from the championship tees. Dompier predicted a few challenges with the Spyglass Hill course.

“In Arizona, you’re used to playing elevation and the ground is dry,” said Dompier. “Whereas [in California] you’re playing at sea level and the ball doesn’t travel very far. Plus the ground is wet, so there’s not much roll, and it’s colder, so your muscles respond differently.”

Yet, while he admitted to the numerous challenges of playing and scoring a sea level course versus a desert course, Dompier said he is not intimidated and that golfers like a challenge. “It should be a great test,” he said. “It should be fun.”

Qualifying at the TaylorMade TP Classic at the Los Angeles Country Club in California was just the latest accomplishment in a growing list of career highlights for the young head golf pro. So far this year, the self-taught Dompier has won the PGA Southwest Match Play Championship at Ocotillo Golf Course in Arizona; the PGA Southwest Pro-Am at Arrowhead, Arizona; the Pro Member at Skyline Country Club, Arizona; and the PGA Tucson Match Play Championship at Stone Canyon, Arizona.

Dompier also qualified for the U.S Open at Wigwam, Arizona and advances to the Final Qualifier on June 6, 2011 at Bremerton, Washington. Three of the thirty-six players at the June qualifier will be chosen as finalists.

Additionally, Dompier qualified at Raven South Mountain in Arizona, and will progress to the televised PGA Professional National Championship in Hershey, Pennsylvania on June 26-29, 2011. The top 25 players from that event will go on to play for the Professional Golf Association.
