The second AWGA Girl Golf Day of the season was held at the beautiful Lodge at Ventana Canyon, Mountain course. 54 ladies attended this non-competitive format. Some of the participants played a regular stroke play round of golf. Some ladies played a scramble in their foursome. Others also played some other games to make their round of golf a little more “interesting”.
AWGA Champion Partner – LPGA Teaching Professional – Peggy Gustafson came down to Ventana Canyon, and prior to the round, held short game clinics at the putting green. During the round, she stationed herself at the par 3 16th and gave the players tips and answered any questions they might have had. Thank you Peggy for giving your time to us!
We had some on-course games – Closest to the Hole on numbers 6 and 16. And a new game introduced to the Girl Golf Days by Robin Lane – “OOPS”. This game is played over a Par 3 with water, or some other hazard in front. If you hit your ball in the hazard, you get to put your name on a ticket, and afterwards we draw a winner. This kind of takes the sting out of knocking your wayward shot.
Our on-course winners were: Closest to the hole #6 – Deanna Kennedy | Closest to the hole #16 – Lois Mikrut | “OOPS” – Pauline Gonsior
Congratulations and thank you to all the participants. It was a very fun day. Also a big Thank You to the staff of Ventana Canyon. They really made everything run smoothly, treated us very nicely, and the course was in super shape! Our next Girl Golf Days are: August 6 at Hassayampa Golf Club in Prescott, and October 1 at Blackstone Country Club in Peoria.
